Torre de Moncorvo is a surprising, predominantly rural town. It originated with a nobleman called Mendo Curvus, lord of these lands and participant in the Christian reconquest of the Iberian Peninsula.
Heritage:
Torre de Moncorvo is rich in heritage. The Minor Basilica of Our Lady of the Assumption, dating from the 16th to the 18th century, is a powerful heritage site where the sacred art museum is located. The Castle of Torre de Moncorvo is a medieval fortification, which was originally a wall, the interior of which was a new town. The Historic Center of Torre de Moncorvo and the Philippine Fountain are other heritage highlights.
The religious heritage includes the Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Teixeira, the Church of Misericórdia, the Church of Santiago Maior, the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Esperança and the Chapel of Nossa Senhora dos Remédios.

This municipality has splendid viewpoints such as: the Vale do Sabor Viewpoint, the Fraga do Cão Viewpoint, the Fraga do Facho Viewpoint, the Póvoa Viewpoint, the Santa Bárbara Viewpoint, the São Gregório Viewpoint, the São Lourenço Viewpoint, the Talegre Viewpoint and the Santa Leocádia Viewpoint.
Green spaces:
If your goal is tranquillity and relaxation, you can visit the lakes of the taste (Lago de Cilhades, Lago dos Santuários and Lago do Medal) which originated from the wild river. If you wish, you can choose to go hiking or running on the ecopista do sabor, between the north bank of the River Douro, where you can enjoy a view of the river, Torre de Moncorvo, the sabor valley and the Serra do Reboredo.

Gastronomy:
To get to know the region is to get to know its gastronomy. A highlight of Torre de Moncorvo’s cuisine is the Terrincho lamb of the Churra da Terra Transmontana breed, a product of protected origin.
Some specialties are Caldeirada de Borrego, migas and peixinhos do rio, fumeiro and Butelo.
