  • Nature and Landscape

It’s well known that the Douro is a World Heritage Site. It’s like walking into an art gallery and glimpsing the various brushstrokes of the same artist. 

The green fields and the immense vineyards where the much-acclaimed Douro wines are produced, particularly Port. From spring to spring, the landscapes change, but the charm remains. The River Douro follows its course, reflecting the grandeur of its banks.

  • Viewpoints:

  • Misarela Viewpoint:

The Misarela Viewpoint allows you to take in the view of the immense Douro Valley and the Serra do Marão. You can also hear the water flowing in the waterfall that gives this viewpoint its name.

  • Fraga da Pena Viewpoint:

This viewpoint is different from the usual, as a rock formation looms at the top of it. Although it is different, it always promises a view that is characteristic of the best nature films. 

  • Viewpoint and Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Graça:

The landscape that can be seen from this viewpoint is part of the municipality, with the many centuries-old fruit trees and the various pine trees. You can still see it in the Tarouca reach, next to Monte de Santa Helena. 

  • Viewpoint and Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Saúde:

With the Temilobos Dam at its feet, the Nossa Senhora da Saúde Viewpoint and Chapel is the right place to capture a unique image of the Douro landscape. 

  • São Domingos Viewpoint and Chapel:

Prepare to be enchanted by such beauty. From here you can see Vila Real, Viseu and even Oporto. The main character in this plot is the Serra do Marão, with the River Douro at its feet. 

  • Viewpoint – Folgosa Walkway:

With man’s labour, the star is the banks of the Douro. For those who enjoy running, cycling or simply walking in the open air by the riverbed, this is undoubtedly the ideal place!

  • Gastronomy 

Secrets are passed down from generation to generation, and the greatest mysteries of Armamar’s gastronomy are kept secret. The dishes are simple, but characteristic of the diet of those who worked in the fields, and others are more detailed for celebrations.

The wines stand out, with three designations of origin: DOC Douro, Porto and Távora-Varosa. We invite you to serve them at the table.

The capital of the mountain apple, grown at an altitude of over 800 metres, this fruit is becoming increasingly popular in kitchens and pastry shops. Delicacies such as Apple Dumplings, Apple Lencinhos and Apple Searas are the sweet treats you can’t miss!

On festive days, the famous little goat plays the main role. With its wood-fired oven flavour, accompanied by roast potatoes and rice, the taste is enviable and not to be missed.

Vila Nova’s famous goat’s cheese is not to be missed. These can be served fresh or matured.

  • Religious Heritage

The people of Armamar have a great religious heritage, including chapels, hermitages and churches. If you’re looking to learn about local history, with buildings that show the evolution of styles, Armamar has the ideal route for you!

  • Europe’s Great Wine Route

On the journey between Vila Nova de Gaia in Portugal and Strasbourg in France, Armamar is an obligatory stop on the Great Wine Route of Europe.

Passing through Portugal, Spain and France, the Douro stands out as the oldest demarcated region in the world. Between vineyards and estates, it stretches for 36 kilometres with a unique and incomparable beauty.
