Description
Built in the 17th / 18th century, it is the bell tower that remained of the old Church of Santa Cristina, destroyed in 1809 by General Loison's troops, during the 2nd French invasion, commanded by Soult, and the service was celebrated in the chapel of the old manor of Picota. Located in the historic center of Mesão Frio, in 2021 the tower was converted into an urban viewpoint with free access. From this urban viewpoint you can contemplate the historic center of the village of Mesão Frio, the Douro River, as well as the entire surrounding region, built and natural, of vineyards and mountains.
