Côa Museum

Description

The Côa Museum was inaugurated in 2010 and is perfectly integrated into the landscape in which it is located. It sits gracefully on top of the hill which, on its left bank, overlooks the mouth of the Côa, celebrating the meeting of the region's two world heritage sites: the Prehistoric Art of the Côa Valley and the Alto Douro Wine Region Landscape. The museum is spread over four floors with an auditorium, an educational service room, an administrative area, a store and permanent and temporary exhibition rooms. The Coa Museum is a cultural space that aims to promote the historical and cultural heritage of the Coa Valley Archaeological Park and contextualize humanity's oldest graphic memory, Palaeolithic art, allowing us to travel back in time to around 25,000 years ago and interpret the demonstration of the social and artistic life of humanity's first ancestor.
