Description
As part of the Vila Real municipal museum network, the Museum of Sound and Image was born out of the need to preserve the important collection of the old Avenida Theatre, which had been in the possession of the municipality since 1999.
This initial nucleus has since been joined by numerous acquired pieces, as well as pieces donated or deposited by various institutions and private collectors. The museological discourse is spread over seven rooms (with various interactive sections), dedicated successively to the first Vila Real Theatre (from 1846), the Circus Theatre (from 1892), the Avenida Theatre (from 1930), the history of photography, the history of cinema and temporary exhibitions.
At the same time, the Museum of Sound and Image runs an educational service and an audiovisual archive and regularly organizes various initiatives as part of its complementary programming, from publishing publications to film screenings and hosting contemporary artistic projects.
Free admission.
