Casa Junqueiro Regional Museum

Description

Located in Rua de São Francisco, in the heart of the historic center of the parish of Freixo de Espada à Cinta, the Casa Junqueiro Regional Museum dates back to 1998 and was born out of the desire of people interested in the cultural development of their land, thus becoming a museum that seeks to enhance the cultural heritage of Freixo de Espada à Cinta. It is housed on the first floor of the manor house that belonged to José António Junqueiro, father of the poet Guerra Junqueiro, popularly known as "Old Junqueiro". For this reason, many inhabitants of Freixo de Espada à Cinta know this museum as the "Old Junqueiro Museum". The Casa Junqueiro Regional Museum shows us the ethnographic nature and regional features of the manor houses of the time, and all the spaces that make it up, six rooms in all, reflect the social and economic life of a wealthy house in the second half of the 19th century, such as the clothing room, and some years of the 20th century, where there is a faithful reproduction of the "sóto", the name formerly given to traditional and local stores.
