Description
Located in the village of Lavandeira, the Museu da Memória Rural's Olive Oil Museum shows visitors how olive oil was produced in a traditional mill with a central screw press. The entire process related to the traditional production of olive oil is portrayed here in the museum's discourse, which begins with the picking of the olives, the "pulhas" exchanged between groups of workers, their transportation, their cleaning before they enter the mill, and the processes of milling, roasting, boiling, pressing and finally the decanting operation that will lead to obtaining the fine thread of oil. The entire museum discourse is supported by graphic panels and video documents that use images from ethnographic collections and old photographic documentation.
