Description
Considered a "National Monument", it was built in the 16th century. The Vila da Rua Pillory is a Manueline pillory with a 6-stepped base, composed of a quadrangular capital with 4 canted crowned heads and 4 rosettes on the faces.
The base of the finial is extended into a table, with a listello frame from whose protruding corners rise 4 pyramidal pinnacles, 3 registers decorated with small spheres and double protruding listello topped with ferrets. In the center is another pinnacle carved on all 4 sides. This is where properties and rents were auctioned off, justice was meted out and the defendants were humiliated, chained and publicly punished.
